Bruno Labbadia is now the Super Eagles’ head coach, as appointed by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF). The German tactician succeeds Finidi George as the 37th head coach.

Bruno’s appointment was announced this morning, August 27th, via X (formerly Twitter). Bruno Labbadia has been appointed as the Head Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Starting 7th September in Uyo and on 10th September in Kigali, he leads the three-time African champions in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda, respectively. Four October and November matches are scheduled for the qualification campaign.

Bruno Labbadia, born 8th February 1966 in Darmstadt, Germany, represented the German national team, Die Mannschaft, with two caps. The German Bundesliga was won by him with Bayern Munchen in 1994, during his tenure with several clubs including Darmstadt 98, Hamburger SV, FC Kaiserslautern, FC Cologne, Werder Bremen, Arminia Bielefeld, and Karlsruher SC.

Bruno, who holds a UEFA Pro License, has coached high-profile teams including Hertha Berlin, VfB Stuttgart, VfL Wolfsburg, Hamburger SV, and Bayer Leverkusen.

Bruno is the sixth German coach to manage the Super Eagles in succession, following Marotzke (1970-1974), Göller (1981), Höner (1988-1989), Vogts (2007-2008), and Rohr (2016-2021). Manfred and Gernot led Nigeria to notable achievements: a second place finish at the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations and qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
