Lekan Osifeso Jr., an up-and-coming Afro-fusion musician from Nigeria, was born on April 28, 1996. His debut song, Ariel, was released in 2019.
The singer, who goes by the stage name Lojay, rose to prominence in the music industry after collaborating with renowned producer Sarz to create the smash tune Tonongo.
The song is taken from his popular EP, LV N ATTN, on which he also worked with Sarz and Wizkid.
One of Nigeria’s up-and-coming musical acts, he has accepted invitations to perform at numerous events and concerts in both Africa and Europe.
Less than six months after becoming famous, Lojay received a nomination for the 2021 AFRIMA awards’ Most Promising African Artiste category.
Early Life
On April 28, 1996, Lojay was born to the Yoruba family of Mr. and Mrs. Lekan Osifeso.
Lekan Osifeso Jr. was his name, after his father.
He is the first kid of the family and is from one of the states in southwest Nigeria.
His parents were devoted Christians, thus he was raised in a religious environment. This indicated that he routinely attended church and infrequently missed services.
His religious upbringing aided him in discovering his passion for music. He developed an interest in music from listening to the various gospel songs that his parents enjoyed playing.
And because he enjoyed their films, Disney music helped to cultivate this resemblance. Additionally, Wizkid, Bruno Mars, Jon Bellion, and Michael Jackson were influences on Lojay.
During his senior year of high school, he started writing music lyrics in his spare time. During school functions and community shows, he played some of these songs to the admiration of his fellow students and neighborhood friends.
Education
Lojay had his elementary, middle, and high school education at prestigious private institutions.
He went abroad to the UK to complete his undergraduate studies. After four years of studies, he earned his bachelor’s degree in 2018.
Career
While still an undergraduate, Lojay’s debut album was released in 2016. But it wasn’t until he had graduated in 2018 that he made the decision to pursue a career in music. In 2019, he released his first song, Ariel. The song launched him onto the Nigerian music scene as music fans discovered what he had to offer and critics praised him for his skill as a songwriter and unique style.
He released another song called Ogogoro in the middle of 2020, differentiating himself from other up-and-coming performers by leaning more toward an Afro-fusion sound. In terms of streams, downloads, and positions on the charts, Ogogoro performed better than Ariel. The song paved the way for greater industry success.
Lojay contacted Sarz, a legendary producer, during the epidemic to express his desire to work with him. The latter complied with Lojay’s request and invited him to visit Sarz’s studio in Lagos. The initial goal for Lojay and him was to collaborate on a single, but instead they had a 3-month bootcamp that resulted in the successful product, EP “LV N ATTN.” The official six-track single by Lojay is an abbreviation for “Love And Attention.”
The first song from the EP, Tongogo, was released on April 30, 2021, and it proved popular right away, elevating Lojay’s status in the industry. Within days, the song reached the top of the charts and received thousands of streams from fans of Afrobeats music worldwide.
On June 4, 2021, Sarz and Lojay issued their collaborative project, LV N ATTN, two months after Tongogo’s debut. DSPs advertised the initiative as was to be expected, aiding in getting it in front of interested fans. The songs Monalisa and LV N ATTN quickly rose to the top of listeners’ favorites on the project.
Monalisa’s music video, which quickly became a popular dance and party hit, was released on September 15, 2021. Sanusucii styled Lojay, and the video was directed by UAX Visuals.
The project’s lead hit, “LV N ATTN,” included Wizkid as a featured artist. Lojay claimed that Wizkid was waiting for him in a studio in West London after Sarz had invited him there to record the song.
Lojay has been asked to perform at numerous music events in Africa and Europe ever since he first gained notoriety. Additionally, AFRIMA recently put him forward for the Most Promising African Artiste Award. Just five months after he put out his first EP, he was nominated.
